Why Cali is on the map for eye surgery
Cali is home to one of Colombia's highest-ranked hospitals, Fundación Valle del Lili, which holds JCI accreditation at the hospital level and runs a full ophthalmology service, alongside university programs that train corneal and refractive specialists. The city also hosts private refractive centers on the same laser platforms used in Medellín and Bogotá. What it lacks is the volume of foreign patients, which cuts both ways: fewer English-first concierge services, but also less of the medical-tourism price inflation seen in El Poblado.

Altitude: Cali's quiet advantage
Cali sits at about 1,000 meters. Medellín is 1,500 and Bogotá 2,640. Altitude matters for dry eye and for the first days after surgery because lower altitude means higher humidity and less UV intensity. For a patient with a marginal tear film, Cali is the gentlest of the three recovery environments. Getting there and around
Alfonso Bonilla Aragón airport (CLO) has direct flights from Miami and connections through Bogotá and Panama. The airport is 20 to 30 minutes from the main clinic districts in the north and south of the city. Ride apps work; taxis from the airport should be booked at the official desk. Granada, El Peñón and the south (Ciudad Jardín, Pance) are the usual choices: quieter, closer to the private clinics, with mid-range hotels and short-term vacation rental options. Five to six nights covers consultation, surgery and the week-one check for laser procedures; eight to ten for ICL.
