“Free lifetime enhancements” sounds like insurance against disappointment. It usually is not that simple. Additional laser treatment may be inappropriate if the cornea lacks sufficient remaining tissue, the prescription is unstable, or another eye problem explains the symptoms. A discount promise cannot override those clinical limits. If a Colombia LASIK quote advertises future touch-ups, demand the actual conditions in writing.

The six terms that matter

Eligibility. Who decides whether a second operation is medically appropriate, and which tests must be repeated? The original surgeon's promise cannot guarantee future suitability.

Time window. Is the offer available for one year, several years, or an undefined “lifetime”? Does “lifetime” mean your lifetime, the clinic's operating life or a particular product plan?

Fees. Are diagnostics, medication, the surgeon, the facility and a new laser fee all included? Ask whether follow-up and treatment for complications are explicitly excluded.

Provider and location. Must you return to the same facility and surgeon in Colombia? What happens if the surgeon leaves, the machine changes or the clinic closes?

Travel. Who covers airfare, lodging, lost wages or an extra examination trip? Usually these are separate costs; get a written answer rather than infer coverage.

Outcome standards. Does the offer depend on measured refractive error, actual visual difficulty or a specific prescription threshold? A patient with halos and technically “good” acuity may not qualify for a refractive retreatment.

Enhancement is a medical decision, not a coupon

The FDA notes the possibility of undertreatment, overtreatment and further surgery, while advising that refraction be stable before considering an enhancement. Your surgeon should review corneal thickness, the shape of the cornea, tear-film health and other causes of unsatisfactory vision. Sometimes glasses, dry-eye care or observation are preferable to further ablation.

How to compare two Colombian quotes

Put the initial price, enhancement exclusions and follow-up location side by side. If one is $300 cheaper but requires another trip for any revision, the quoted saving may disappear. Ask for the contract in English or a language you understand, and keep copies of all signed terms. A sales representative's WhatsApp promise is not a substitute for the actual clinic policy.

Ask before paying

  • Would this enhancement offer apply if I move or cannot travel back?
  • Is an initial post-op problem handled differently from a later change in prescription?
  • Can I get my procedure and laser records to a surgeon at home?
  • What happens if the clinician decides further laser surgery is unsafe?

Only compare “guarantees” after the medical limits and travel costs are visible.
